Is this your illustration?Yes, all the work displayed on my website and at shows is my own illustration. Having collected my reference material I design my posters using adobe illustrator & photoshop. This technique produces a digital file that can then be printed as posters and other merchandise. I have started with A3 prints and as investment funds allow I will move to other sizes in the A format range.

How long does it take you to illustrate each poster?Depending on the complexity of the image my illustrations take between 30-50 hours per image. Each shape is carefully worked on to create a simplified image in the style of the 1930's railway posters with my contemporary twist. Adobe illustrator allows me to create complex images and edit them easily, producing a final product that can be scaled to suit the desired output...

Which posters will you be doing? At present my goal is to produce 4 different series: The Solway Coast Series - Portrait I have started with Maryport as it is my home town and have recently completed my seventh illustration - Whitehaven. Next on this list is Workington, Alonby, Silloth, St Bees and Ravenglass with a few more of Maryport. The Wainwright Fells Series - Portrait Starting with the most picturesque and popular Wainwright Fells I would one day like to complete and illustration for each of the 214 fells that he documented, that however might take me the rest of my life. I am still not sure how I am going to display them on a 3m x 3m market stall, but that is a challenge for another day. The Lakeland Towns Series - Portrait Cockermouth, Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere will be the starting point for this series but I hope to add Egremont, Carlisle and Aspatria too. The Lakes, Meres and Tarns Series - Landscape This will include all the bodies of water in the National Park and be depicted in landscape format. I will start with the lakes closest to home and as I travel further in to the National Park I will collect my reference and add more to the list.

Will you be illustrating locations outside Cumbria and the Lake District?Sadly there just isn't enough time to illustrate requests out of county, if you want to commission me please see the next question. The goal I have set out above fits with my show calendar and ease of reference material. As the illustrations take a considerable amount of time to illustrate I have to pick my next subject carefully to ensure a well rounded direction; focused choice is made for my portfolio.

Do you take commissions?Yes I do. Whilst this is not viable for individuals due to cost businesses can greatly benefit for licensing artwork for resale. The price will be dictated depending on the complexity of the image and the licence you require depending on usage and the time it is granted for. The price for a commissioned artwork starts between £1000-£1500. I will always retain my copyright to my work. Please use the contact form to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
