Haystacks rises to 597 meters, named such from the Icelandic word “stack” meaning columnar rock. The fell is in the Western Fells of the Lake District, it has rugged terrain with steep ascents and rocky paths, featuring numerous tarns and infinity pools at the summit. Views from the summit look downEnnerdale and Buttermere and stretch as far as Scotland. The routes to the summit includes Scarth Gap Pass to the west and Warnscale in the east, these can join up to a circular route. This is one of the most popular fells and Alfred Wainwright’s favorite, his ashes were scattered there.
