Rannerdale Knotts is in the North Western Fells of the Lake District rising to 335 meters and is well known for its stunning bluebell display in springtime. The fell can be climbed as part of a circular walk from Buttermere via Whiteless Pike. On the summit there’s a lovely panoramic view of Crummock Water in one direction and Buttermere backed by Great Gable in the other direction. Legend says it was the site of a battle between native Cumbrians and invading Normans in the 11th or 12th century. On the summit the stoney outcrop called the Kirkstile Formation is of great interest to geologists
